Couch to 5K: Week 8

Couch to 5K: Week 8

Lee reflects on the penultimate week of Couch to 5K and contemplates whether he’s ready to take on the final furlong.

I’m just back from my last run of Week 8 and I finally feel as though I’m back on form.

Although Week 7 went well, I wasn’t completely over the effects of the virus. Plus, my training had been intermittent in the week leading up to the last run, which affected my performance. The consistency of Week 8’s training regime has really improved things. It goes to show that if you keep chipping away at something, you’ll get better in time.

In summary, I achieved 28 minutes of solid running. As ever, Jo Whiley was spurring me on and giving fantastic encouragement along the way. There was a five-minute warm-up at the beginning and at the end to loosen my muscles, which helps to reduce the post-run aches and pains.

If I’m honest, I smashed it and feel like I could even go a little bit further. It’s a good sign because next week I need to do three 30-minute runs and I don’t think I’ve ever run so far in my life.

I may be shattered now, but it’s a nice feeling; I’m achieving something and my health is improving so I want to maintain that momentum.

Keep on keeping on! 🏃
